Hey everyone! I’m back! Sorry for the lack of gaming threads. And I appreciate the people who took up the mantle while I was away. I hope to be back doing these more regularly but will figure something out for if I do decide to take an extended leave again.

Soooooo. What have you been playing!!! Since we last spoke I’ve been playing a metric fuck ton. I cleared a lot of backlog but right now I am devouring Control Reasonant. Game is unreasonably good. Highly recommend of you liked the first game! I personally think it is better in almost every way. It rocks

I’ve been getting back into CS2 somewhat and recently also reinstalled Monster Hunter Wilds.

Apart from that I also dug up my old savegames for Zelda BOTW and gave the Cemu emulator another try. The last time I had it running it would randomly cause my system to crash. This seems to be fixed now, though I don’t know if my since upgraded GPU, the switch from Windows to Linux, or simply an update to the emulator fixed my issue.

Welcome back! I’m mixing a few weeks together, but recently I finally managed to obtain a PSVita and I played through Gravity Rush, kinda short but really fun.

I played Denshattack, I still have to get all the gold medals, but it was enjoyable.

I also tried Qliphah in providence’s shadow. It has an interesting combat system, but it didn’t really hook me.

I’m interested in Control Resonant, I liked the setting of the first one a lot. How’s the gameplay in this one?

I was honestly getting a little excited for Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, but I don’t really have a system I’ll be able to play it on at the moment and despite being a DQ series fan, I’ve never played any of the DQM games. With this in mind, I found a fan translation of Dragon Quest Monsters 2 for the 3DS to boot up in Citra and it’s been a lot of fun.

The game is bright and cheerful and oozes those pleasant, Dragon Quest vibes. Was a bit surprised to learn the game leans more heavily into the SMT monster raising than Pokemon. Which is to say you won’t be getting attached to specific monsters very much. I caught a drakee because I always loved their cute design and … it’s just kinda terrible. Instead you mostly want to keep breeding them which removes the parents for some reason. As far as I can tell wild caught is mostly useless and their power curve is too low to ever make them much good, but continually breeding them allows them to inherit skills. I’ve never wanted a random name button so much in my life. I’m sorry Splorg 7, I ran out of unique names ages ago, you come from a venerable line of Splorgs.

It’s very much a game for kids, the difficulty curve is pretty light but not without challenges in the arena and boss fights. You have Zoom instantly and can always teleport out of dungeons or to the nearest inn, which are free, to heal up. The stakes are pretty low, but that’s all I’m looking for right now. It’s just an excuse to explore the world and steadily breed a more powerful team.

Having not played the original GBC games I can’t tell how faithful it is, but there’s definitely a lot of content here. Given it’s a fan translation and the only people who are likely to have played it are people who emulate or crack their 3DS, I’d say this one is worth going out of your way to check out if you’re looking for more DQ content.

Somehow I missed the release of Control Resonant entirely, despite being a fan of the first one. So, thanks for the reminder

I’m about to check this Nivalis Nights game out. Thing was in self caused development hell for years and I don’t have my hopes up. But I’m invested as I liked its predecessor and I’ve been waiting for it for awhile, so I’ll at least give it a fair shake.

The Outer Worlds. I mistakenly pushed on a main quest and it cancelled some side ones or alternative routes without me realizing it would do that. I’m not really upset as my inventory is full of weapons I barely use and I’m slowly but surely plowing through towards the end.
Got one more companion quest to run and the Gorgon dlc, but I think I’m near the end, or at least 3 quarters in.

I was surprised at the lack of romance, though I did play matchmaker, and it feels like guiding others to a treasure i cannot possess.

Some weapons are fun, others are useless. And the ammo loot is set for harder, spongier enemies as i seem to have gathered almost 10k of each.
Durability loss can creep up on you though, so be wary and cycle through them.

Finally getting to Psychonauts 2. I’m through the first two brains and am loving it so far. Just so much creativity on display here.

I’m also digging into Control Resonant. I just love the weird and wacky style of this game and the original. The combat isn’t a pushover, but when you start chain moves together you feel like a badass, even early on. The movement in general is buttery smooth, feels great to just pick up and play.

Running through 2D Metroids in release order, up to Samus Returns right now. It’s weirdly a lot more fun now than I had when it was the newest game. I’ve been avoiding it since Dread came out and was just it but more and better but it turns out there’s something to be said for its relative simplicity. I find myself doing riskier and less efficient things I used to avoid because I feel so unthreatened now and feeling cool is more of an option.
