Just came over from LemmyNSFW to check out this scene. For those of you who are curious, it really is a hot mess over there.
It started out as a cool and relaxed instance with one of the largest collections of smut on the fediverse. Now over half of the communities I’ve followed are gone, one of the mods I respected was banned for reasons I still don’t understand, and the admins are arguing over the rules and whether or not they can determine consent from hentai.
That’s right, they are trying to treat cartoons like real life.
Oh, and pokemon stuff is now banned for some reason. As if we have to protect the pokemon from abuse too.
I am at a loss for words.
I’ve been on the internet for a long time and I don’t think I’ve ever seen an implosion this wild before. At least not since Myspace.
I have one foot over there still, trying to nudge it where I can in a more positive direction like before, but I’m thinking it’s a lost cause. We all see where this is going.
TL;DR I think my philosophy aligns much more closely with this place, and so far I like the vibe. So… you might be seeing a lot more of me around, lol.

I definitely have no skin in the game here, but wow just skimming some of the discussion topics, it sounds like a small group of people want to monopolize a fairly easy to vocalize domain for a very specific purpose of power-modding it rather than any sincere attempt at being an all-encompassing community.
Kind of like how some people are moderators / owners for some 30-40 communities on popular instances and flooding some of them with submissions as if all they do for a day job is to do that under the guise of “sharing content” while giving little to no room for anything to stick long enough to garner discussion (I don’t know about the next person, but the “content” is the discussion, not the shared link).
These people are not leaders nor are they effective community managers. Rather they want to monopolize the community to serve a particular motive, and are leveraging the fact they’ve become “landed gentry” to shape a community that fits their wishes, rather than one spun together by the engagement of its members.

Well actually it was a post I made replying to the admin’s post telling them they clearly don’t care about legality if they’re willing to host pornography in a country where pornography is illegal. But I didn’t get a chance to screencap that one.
and here’s their “reason” for banning me:

Isn’t it less risky if it’s legal? There’s no need to hide and fear repercussions from authorities? Them moving to Ukraine where any pornography is illegal is contradicting this statement lol. Perhaps they think that the Ukraine government has bigger things to tend to (well uh the war) and the provider would be willing to accept any money they can get right now?
I just saw that! I think this is the last push I needed to leave that place for good. I had my suspicions for a while, thought maybe there was something worth salvaging, but this is insane.
Yup! I think i’ll like it a lot better here. Glad something good came out of the time I wasted on that place.

They clearly don’t have any idea what they are doing, their old host is Hetzner which strictly bans pornography, and their new host is in Ukraine, a country where pornography is illegal.
Also do they have evidence the ex admin reported it or are they just wanting more things to pin on him?
Burggit is soon gonna go from “the instance where the weird porn is” to “the instance where the only porn is”.
I would be exceptionally amused if this ended up being the case, even if it was just for a short time period.

Pretty slim pickings especially due to the route lemmynsfw is going in but good to be here.
Kbin doesn’t seem to prohibit porn either. Not sure what their policy on it will look like once they get around to writing it out, though.

Old admin was in favor of controversial kinky content. They stepped down, seemingly partially due to some drama about their favorable stance towards controversial content. The new admin steps up and is pretty much against everything even slightly controversial. Thinking about it, it’s a real monkey’s paw situation happening over there.
Sounds rough. Reading the other replies here seem to indicate it’s…a bit more than “protect the lolis”, “a bit” being used loosely lol like holy hell, that’s something else.
Looks like this instance is slowly becoming the last bastion for said controversial kinky content.
Something we have noticed is, every time an instance tightens its grip, we seem to be the place people go. We hope to continue being that sanctuary for people.
It makes sense. When the whole point of this instance is that most if not all fictional kinks are tolerated. People are more likely to go there if their kink is suddenly seen as too weird and or gross. Since the odds of getting removed would be much smaller.
Yep, we try to provide the most freedom of expression we possibly can without getting into potential legal hot water. Glad we’re carving our place as a safe haven for people.

Still a bit of a shit circumstance for those affected, though. I would assume they’d like to feel welcomed and accepted on the larger instance.
Oh for sure, I’m happy this place gets more new faces, but like you said…it’d be nice if the bigger instances accepted us so some of us don’t have to make multiple accounts to get the whole expierence…
But see, that’d require us all to sit down and talk about topics, some that might be a mite bit uncomfortable or tough for a lot of the folks there to swallow
I made the switch to here before those policy changes even took place and now I’m glad I did.
I made my account here, figuring that I’d also be able to access the mainstream porn on lemmynsfw with it. Less than 12 hours later, they defederated. q_q
Yeah that’s a shame but with many of their users leaving and a lot of the content there being restricted there’s not much you’re losing anyway.

Well probably because they use Cloudflare. Which is a thing you should not use if you distribute porn of any kind. One report of non consensual porn, revenge porn, or CSAM and they’ll drop you like a hot potato

NHentai does not use actual people and thus is at a far lower risk of getting in trouble. I believe Burger was primarily talking about IRL porn as opposed to hentai. Cloudflare seems far more Lenient when it comes to hentai than they are actual IRL pornography.

Ha not quite that bad, but last i heard they did decide to outlaw anything that wasn’t vanilla.
They switched admins yesterday and while the old admin was cool with most legal content, the new admin seems hellbent on taking away all porn that is even slightly controversial. They also immediately defederated with us because while the old admin took a pro loli/shota/cub stance, the new one absolutely did not and even announced defederating us. As you can probably imagine, we’ve gotten a decent chunk of signups since this change, enough to warrant this post welcoming them.
Kinda figured. I hate mods like that, instead of going in the original vision of the instance. Probably one of those former reddit mods lmao
With that said, any alternatives to some of the communities that was over there?
