Yeah, if you can get your image to upload through the regular interface, it’s fine. This is mainly for files that simply will not upload through the regular interface because Lemmy’s built in uploader is terrible.

We do not restrict any communication to or from any instance. Only instance we block is threads.net due to huge privacy concerns. Any other federation issues are entirely done by other instances. We do not have any involvement or say in it.

I have set up FANBOX in a way which makes us feel comfortable about receiving donations through them. Unfortunately, I can’t disclose more about the setup.

FANBOX was added weeks after the comment you are replying to. Their terms allow us to receive donations without the risk that going through PayPal and/or Stripe directly would place upon us.

You seemed to have explained it pretty well, at least to my understanding of how the term is used. 👍

People really need to move off of The Hard R, especially for even slightly controversial content. They have made it clear, NSFW is not allowed there, controversial kinks, opinions and discussions are not allowed there. The protests were a great idea, but it seems like the vast majority bent over after the slightest amount of pressure was applied. At least some individuals care enough to actually switch to the newer upcoming platforms such as various Lemmy/Kbin instances.

We try to stay on top of things. @[email protected] is especially quick at getting stuff like this deployed.

Defederation is significantly less common than with Mastodon and Lemmy and from my understanding is virtually impossible to isolate an instance. You can have servers/rooms running on multiple instances at any given time (and most do). I have never experienced an issue of true defederation where it was impossible to talk to someone else on another Matrix home server. I even was on a server one time which did defederate from Matrix.org. Even in that case I was still able to join matrix.org servers and talk to matrix.org users, though it was a touch more difficult (but barely).

I personally use uddu.chat which is ran by a friend of mine. cutefunny.art is also a good one I know of.
