Excellent work
- Some of the biggest communities like r/pics, r/aww, and r/GIF decided to post John Oliver pictures and GIFs. In a tweet, Oliver approved this move.
- In the case of r/aww, the community is also allowed to post pictures of Chiijohn.
- r/iPhone decided to post pictures celebrating “dashing” Tim Cook.
- r/Shitposting banned posts with the letter k.
- r/Wellthatsucks is now a subreddit about vacuum cleaners.
- r/Nofans is now a passive PC cooler subreddit.
- r/Interestingasfuck removed a lot of all rules apart from asking members to not break site-wide rules.
- r/Memes is allowing only Medieval / Landed Gentry memes. This is in response to Huffman’s “Landed Gentry” comment about protesting subreddits.
- r/PokemonGo is now allowing pictures of John Oliver, Pikachu, or Spark.
- r/Horny is now a “Christian Minecraft server.”
- r/Steam members are posting about actual steam.
- r/HarryPotter is now referring to Huffman as Voldemort.
- Some subreddits such as r/Showerthoughts are determining close days for the community.
Glorious.
r/formula1 is reopening as NSFW to “comply to the fullest extent of our abilities with these changes”:
Formula 1 is inherently dangerous. Crashes and injuries are not uncommon - some even with fatal results. These incidents are discussed on r/formula1, and videos, images and other media are posted following these events.
Formula 1 includes messaging and sponsors that are connected to alcohol, tobacco and gambling - all of which are legislatively prohibited or age restricted in various locations. We cannot prevent these from being displayed to underaged users, as they are incorporated in general Formula 1 imagery and content.
Formula 1 is known for, both in the past and today, to include certain risque imagery that fall within the NSFW space.
Reddit’s User Agreement states that “Children under the age of 13 are not allowed to create an Account or otherwise use the Services.” - As such it stands to reason that persons under legal age participate in r/formula1.
Switching our classification means Reddit’s age verification shields underage users from being exposed to content considered harmful.
That’s absolutely fantastic lmao
Brilliant! Simply brilliant!
One of the legal advice subs – I can’t remember which – was going forward requiring post approval from mods because they value community safety. But as they are unpaid volunteers they estimate it could take up to 14 days for post approval.

The only thing that could have made it better would be if they added a “Moderators need to work much more slowly now due to having to use the official reddit app’s terrible UI”
I think that was /r/scams. Their post was fantastic
Oh man. I wouldn’t want to anger a bunch of people who make it a hobby to fight scammers in a social psychology arms race.
Thank you for the rundown! It almost makes me want to go back and take a look at the shit show… But tis a silly place and I shant be going back.
Trust me, the shit show is glorious. I even instinctively upvoted a couple of medieval memes but quickly realized what I was doing and closed the tab.
THAT’S what a rundown is!
I did, it was glorious!
/r/woodworking is debating going back to normal, or posting pictures of Norm Abrams and Nick Offerman. I’ll let you guess which one is winning.
r/Wellthatsucks is now a subreddit about vacuum cleaners.
fucking lmao.
/r/Piracy also celebrated the fact that reddit officially endorsed them.
Absolutely fucking glorious!
It makes me so happy seeing reddit come together against this bullshit
r/Nofans is now a passive PC cooler subreddit.
That should be a nice complement to r/onlyfans, which has previously refocused to pictures of fans (though it’s still private)
…I’m afraid to ask what “nofans” used to be. I hadn’t heard of it before.
Don’t be afraid. Nofans - short for - No onlyfans - meaning content of normal women not out to make money (there was a version for couples too)
Maybe someone should bring it back here somewhere.Let’s be real if you want to gain popularity for your R****t alternative you just need porn and such (if you seperate the paid kind from the free link stuff you are golden and will grow fast sadly my knowledge on how to create such a place are limited in the programming department.
Shitposting is funny because the auto mod they are using to remove posts cites removing the post in order to save bandwidth for Reddit. The auto mod post is much longer than post being removed and contains K’s. I found it funny anyway.
It is like watching a slow train wreck. You know you should just look away, but you just cannot.
I need this, faith in humanity has been at a low ebb
I’d like to know more about the “determining close days” for some subreddits. Won’t they just open them back up?
I love to see the malicious compliance.
Some subs like r/fuckcars will be doing “touch grass Tuesday”, where the sub will be restricted every Tuesday.
I think r/HarryPotter is still polling the same idea. Which gets me wonder what if most of the popular subs decided to do this.

I feel you, but in the end it’s just garbage content to piss off reddit admins and execs. Personally, I’d rather get quality content from the fediverse now, but I can understand that some people want to burn that other place down.
It feels empowering to be part of a pissed off collective.
Thank you, nice compilation
Absolutely amazing, what other subreddits are thinking to follow suite?
Bread stapled to trees is only going to allow four subjects moving forward on certain weeks, one of which is John Oliver, another being literal garbage, lol.
What a bowl of fresh air.
and r/GIF
r/gifs not r/gif
@itmightbethew These are all great but /r/interestingasfuck seems to have hit on something that could have a real impact: Reddit apparently can’t sell advertising on NSFW subs. Imagine if /r/pics and /r/aww and other tip subs just opened themselves up to whatever, it would down Reddit in porn and destroy the site’s reputation. I’m sure the admins would try to force them back to SFW, but it could be a powerful tactic.
What are the admins going to do? Moderate? If the moderators are approving NSFW posts, the sub is NSFW… Heck I’m not sure if they have to go that far. On r/cigars every single post is NSFW because cigars are Satan. Just do that to all the subs so every single post requires you to click to reveal the NSFW content. It’ll be like NSFW roulette. Heads, it’s a helpful guide to setting up a service on the cloud. Tails, it’s goatse.
Throw in some random gore there for the nuclear option. NSFL is NSFW. And reddit never bothered to distinguish the two so let them down in yet more of their own poor decisions
Worse than that, Reddit banned all the NSFW subs from /all but DIDN’T ban the NSFL sub. So now instead of and unfiltered /all, with a mix of all the best everything, it’s now a curated collection of no porn and the occasional gore.
Ridiculous, one day i logged into r/cigars, saw all the nsfw banners and had to do a double take on whether i was on the right sub
Sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar…
The tobacco pipe subs are NSFW as well. This was forced on them a few years ago by the admins as they seem to have a big thing against tobacco, but subs for substances much more harmful, like cocaine, are not NSFW.
Tails, it’s goatse.
Fuck. I didn’t have to be reminded of this. Lmao.
I miss 2002
You’re dead right. If $$$ are Spez’s priority then that’s what we should target. A knock on effect is that it catches the attention of the casual redditor. I have a couple friends who read reddit but were clueless on these issues. Until the NSFW content. One DM’d me tonight
"“I was on lunch, and I was like “WTF happened to my reddit feed??””
so that’s working
That NSFW post on r/interestingasfuck has reached r/all lmfao
I think they just banned the mod from r/celebrity for turning the sub NSFW
Big mistake to make on the Internet is to call the Internet’s bluff if you’re at the centre of a controversy. It’s not unlike the Streisand Effect.
You just know that John Oliver is sitting at home right now laughing his ass off at the memes, and then screaming into a pillow because he can’t talk about it anywhere due to the writer’s strike.
How’s the writer’s strike going anyways? Is there any updates about it?
There’s no end in sight.
No end in sight and SAG might be up next at the end of the month. They’re in negotiations right now.
jesus christ how long has this been going on for?
He laughed and then tweeted some more source material for them to run with. He’s loving this.
r/Wellthatsucks is now a subreddit about vacuum cleaners.
Made my day.
I’m visiting till my app stops working and that has given me a real chuckle!
On /r/interestingasfuck I just saw a woman with a speculum holding her ass open as someone else poured milk and cereal into it. Yes they ate it.
So that’s my day so far
Upvoted even though I hate this comment
Wow that’s a classic! I haven’t seen that video in the wild since the early internet!
There might be something wrong with me for that to be nostalgic…
I feel you. Someone in another comment on here mentioned something along the lines of how clicking through a post on Reddit marked NSFW as part of the protest could be anything, like a wonderful guide to self hosting, ooorr it could be goatse…and I felt nostalgic reading that and remembering the days when that was a lot more common.
Then I felt it again reading the description of that video. So I’m right there with ya, fellow ‘damaged by the wild west internet days of old’ weirdo. ;)
Might be?
Oh there’s definitely stuff wrong with me, I just don’t know if this specifically is it
big mood
Is that what “2 girls 1 cup” was?
I’m actually good at not going and looking at these things, so I end up out of the loop. Which decision I am 99.9% happy with lol. But a text description would not be amiss.
Hehe no the cereal stuff is rather innocent compared to 2 girls 1 cup.
I was going to explain what 2 girls 1 cup was, then i thought better of it as it is better off not being explained
You know that now everyone is asking the link for a friend .
"r/Horny is now a “Christian Minecraft server.”
That shit is genius. Not a fan of all this mess. But it has led to new and cool places while creating some funny as hell content with the fallout.
Very true, I’m seeing goats right now and it’s absolutely amazing
Holy shit that’s hilarious lmao
A Red Bull Formula 1 team themed Minecraft server?
(Christian Horner is the team principal for Red Bull Racing. And is also married to Geri “Ginger Spice” Halliwell).
I know that this probably won’t work as stubbornly idiotic as Huffman seems to be doubling down but god isn’t that amazing.
What’s fascinating is the sudden increase of people whining about this. If this kind of stuff bothers them imagine how bad it is when these moderators leave completely? I know a subreddit based on interesting things have completely lowered their standards as a protest and it shows.
My friend is no longer using reddit because his front page is mostly porn now (and the default app sucks at hiding it). So I got him to switch to lemmy :)
But if anything, this is an even better protest. Much more effective and hard to deal with
Yep! Its technically reopening and it makes the spez simps mad. Honestly reddit deserves the worst.
I’ve also had friends say reddit is too toxic now. Well, yeah. Mods aren’t modding and the nicer people are over here. It’ll be interesting to see how much they recover. Clearly they knew this would cost them with their users, but hopefully it’s substantially more than they expected.
If you want to see people really whine, just go on r/JustUnsubbed, you’ll see a bunch of people moaning and groaning about this
I just peeped. So many are clueless and simping to spez
Big Corpo simping is ultra cringe
I think that’s also because a lot of the people fed up with reddit just left at this point. So, it’s only those left, that don’t care as long as they get their memes.
I subbed to that subreddit specifically to see people whine before lol. I’d say it feels astroterfed but that would be giving them too much credit
r/Wellthatsucks is now a subreddit about vacuum cleaners.
I love it
Well well well, what a nice vacuum cleaner!
This has very strong “I’m not touching you!” energy and I’m all about it.
Reminds me of the Sherlock Holmes movie
W: “Remove that stick from my face”
SH: “It’s not in your face; it’s in my hand”
W: “Okay, remove what’s in your hand from my face”
“Why do you keep hitting yourself? Stop hitting yourself!”
There’s some real r/MaliciousCompliance stuff going on and I love it.

Haven’t been back to reddit since i joined lemmy. I like it here.
Yeah, same. I like that it’s a smaller, newer community. Not yet overrun with trolls and bots.
Have popped into ModCoord a couple of times to check on the state of things… but haven’t been in any of my usual subs.
Need to start subscribing to specific communities here soon but for now enjoying the mix that is all/(active|hot) 😀
As soon as the initial internal notes were made public I logged out and deleted the app.
I’m not going so far as to delete all of my posts and comments, but I won’t be using reddit moving forward.
The company even sent messages to moderators saying that they will be removed if they all continue to particulate in the blackout.
that typo, LOL.
ngl, all this makes me want to go back to reddit
It’s funny for about 10 minutes, then you realize it’s all John Oliver posts, and it might as well be a private sun again. It’s working. Lots of my subs are also paralyzed by reddit news and spez being an asshole, so there’s not top much going on for my subs, save for a select few, like some gardening ones. Haven’t found a replacement yet for those :(
Beehaw has a gardening sub. Contribute and spread the word!
yeah what’s it called now - green space? seems relatively active afaict
!greenspace at https://beehaw.org/c/greenspace
Oh man there are tons of gardening communities on Lemmy, I saw them!
Oooh, any succulent specific ones? I’m king r/Succulents a lot…
Same, but I refuse to give them my traffic.
yeah same I went cold turkey off reddit for like 24 hours before I realised not going there was a big improvement. Real shame as once upon a time it was a great place to get unique perspectives on interesting issues. Will be missed.
Well the people providing unique perspectives to issues have probably moved. So we move with them. It’s not, like, reddit the platform was the one providing those perspectives.
And specifically this is the way that Reddit will stagnate and die.
By pissing off it’s contributors and its whole community and them just cutting their losses and moving on.
I had a similar experience; Moved to Lemmy cold turkey and have only looked back to laugh
I’ve been going over and upvoting all this shit I can before my Joey app stops working. I am easily amused, r/Well that sucks has had me laughing every time it pops up.
My favourite one is anime_titties has a poll about whether to continue with their world political topics or change to a highly moderated pic forum of anime boobs.
