Cool hope Washington State can get some of these instead of the hybrids they’ve planning to acquire, though the state would probably lose more federal funding if they reduce fossil fuel usage even more. LOL

BC ferries could use a few. And the ferry over on Bell Island wayyyy on the other side of Canada needs to be replaced.

Aside. Whoever got the contract to “fix” the consistent issues with ferry plan for Bell island did an atrocious job. More holes in it than the Exxon Valdez.

Oh, yeah, sure they get to plug in a goddamn boat no questions asked, and yet my phone says I shouldn’t connect it’s charger if it’s wet. Once again, it’s one rule for the elites and another rule for the rest of us. The hypocrisy is sickening.

I took an electric ferry on a visit to Norway. I didn’t know it was electric until we started moving, dead silent–I had been fully prepared for the smell and sound of a massive diesel motor.

Looking back at the dock I saw the big mother cable that was used for charging the thing. Absolutely bonkers. And that was small potatoes compared to this one.

That is wild… is there still the general overall lowfrequency humming of the ship while underway or does the electric engine not even really “vibrate” the ship?

Most ships use electric motors since decades.

They use diesel to run a generator. It’s more efficient.

So the vibration of the motors is going to be the same as a normal fossil fuel ship.

With the caveat that it’s been a minute since I was there, at low speed there was absolutely nothing. I looked up and saw we were moving; until that moment, I didn’t even realize we were underway.

I vaguely recall some noise and vibration at speed, but it was relatively quite quiet.
