    Another thing, Google usually doesn’t “do” anything, at best they sponsor projects. As far as I can tell from the article, the mapping was most likely done by Janelia researchers.

      It’s a simulated brain, so not a real fly brain unless we live in a simulation, so maybe there’s no difference. Hmm…

        This. Unlike the people using actual brains, these simulated brains are, for the most part, just linear algebra and no more a lifeform than a LLM. They lack all of the components of organic life, lack all the chemicals that make a real lifeform actually “feel”, and so on.

    I think this is bullshit, principally when he says he “mapped” the neural response to actions in the game. You can take any sufficiently large, random, neural network and train the mapping for it to perform a task under reinforcement learning. This is just a reservoir neural net with extra steps
