I mean, to be fair to Picard, it’s unlikely that any conventional weaponry is useful on Q nor is there any way to contain Q. Trying to use weaponry on him or trying to contain him could make him respond in ways most unkind, and Picard knows this.

Poetry isn’t the worst place to start, but maybe he should have tried some Vogon poetry if he really wanted to get the point across.

Do we ever hear of anything from the Gamma quadrant in any of the Star Trek series?

I was doing a little searching and found something about “The Dominion Wars” which is supposedly mentioned at some point in Deep Space Nine. I only watched a little bit of DS9, but I do remember that wormhole that I think went to the Gamma quadrant. I should really watch all of DS9.

        • Yes, yes you should.

It’s slow, and it can take time to get into, but I think the viewer relationship with the characters is all the stronger for that. The similarities to Bab5 are more than skin deep.

I had a friend once who called it “the intellectual’s Star Trek.” I had a hard time liking it at first, but it might now be my favorite series after TOS.
