It makes sense from a pure UX perspective. But of course the real goal of GitHub is to make money, and their paying customers are mostly corporate entities using it for enterprise development. Unless those companies decide that a download button/better release feature is desirable, it’s not likely to happen.

Most corporations tie GitHub into their own build system so such a feature isn’t likely to be considered useful. They pay for GitHub to reduce development costs, which is why GitHub spends so much effort on analytics and the dev experience instead of open source/public users.

Lol - in your other comment you suggested that web devs key off of screen rotation to resize the page, but now you’re saying the client shouldn’t know anything about the viewport at all? Which is it? And why would the rotation angle be useful if I don’t know the aspect ratio of the screen? Or are we now assuming that widescreen will be a thing forever? I thought your ingenius idea was to be able to handle any use case.

That’s called over-engineering for use cases that don’t and won’t exist. Please lecture us some more though.

III is ok but I wouldn’t say it’s bad. At least not as bad as TMP and V. There’s always people being contrarians about movies though. The general consensus is that TMP is super boring.

Of course everyone has their own taste. Maybe some people like how slow TMP is. It’s a very different movie from the Abrams series so I wouldn’t automatically invalidate someone who liked it but not the new ones. I can’t stand Abrams’ hectic/ADHD filming style so I’ve never liked his take on ST. But that doesn’t mean the old ones are all good, the TNG movies are basically all trash except for first contact.

Discovery and Picard are just bad shows to me, especially Picard. It annoys me when people try to reduce criticism to just not liking something new. The Abrams movies and Discovery depart from previous iterations in some really important ways to the point that they don’t feel like the same franchise anymore.

Also really annoys me when people bring up some of the TNG movies to “prove” that old trek did some of the same annoying things, when those movies are also bad and widely criticized.

I do like SNW though. Better than Enterprise and probably Voyager as well.

No one really does that though. The Motion Picture being a bad a movie is widely acknowledged by pretty much everyone. The classics are II-VI, except for V which also sucks.

JSONC does support comments but it wouldn’t be interoperable with anything expecting pure JSON. But still useful for local configs.

For JS shit I usually have to rewrite them because they aren’t production quality in terms of readability. Still really useful for getting answers on obscure stuff

Yeah no joke. My company is much smaller than MS but they still do tons of user research and surveys. They’ve also been adopting rounded corners for everything. It is easier on the eyes for sure. I like it. The dev types who dominate lemmy always think they know better than ux, but most of them are comically bad at design.

Yes, that’s what redditor/lemmy users do. None of these people know anything about UX design or the tens of millions of dollars companies pour into user research.

Any minimally decent website already has margin along the viewport edge, at worst you’re shaving off a few pixels from an image that the user probably hasn’t finished scrolling to anyway. There’s no real loss in content with this change.

Big companies don’t make highly visible design decisions like this on a whim… at least most of the time. They probably have research showing that rounded edges are preferred by end users. Maybe less anxiety inducing or something.

Rounded edges have been a trend in UX design for a while now. It’s not really a concept that they need to have stolen from anyone else.

So I finally figured it out. this is how that toggle works:

• it only appears when you manually search for a song or select a song from certain groups on the home page.
• it does not appear to appear if you select a song from “listen again” or “quick picks” in which case the app forces you to listen to whatever is in their queue unless you manually clear the queue.

So no matter what it’s still a bad experience.
