Oh yeah, it’s bullshit that reduces user agency and choice either way, I just don’t believe for one second that it will improve security as Google is claiming. Its just about control and google consolidating power.
I try to respond to every genuine engagement. I block trolls, contrarians, and provocateurs because life is too short.

I was curious of the same a few days back, and my research couldn’t find a single instance of malware being distributed by the F-Droid store.

154·11 months agoIf you’re a fan of older Star Treks it’s bad, real bad. I watched until the end of season 2 with my partner and had to bail. Everyone above has given good reasons why, I’ll add one I haven’t seen: the lead actress (Soneqa Martin-Green?) overacts Michael Burnham. She overdramatizes almost every scene, to the detriment of the believabolity of the in-universe world, I tried to overlook it but found it grating. I told my partner that half-way into season two, and she responded that she doesn’t really see it. Then about five seconds later Burnham is raising her voice to a senior officer and on the verge of tears over nothing… a minor misunderstanding. Partner laughs and goes, “ok yeah I see it”.
I’d rewatch Enterprise 100 times over ever watching Discovery again, and Enterprise is probably my least favourite pre-2010 Trek, if that helps you.

Risa@startrek.website•My reaction when there's a new Star Trek show for pre-schoolersEnglish
2·11 months agoI think you need to rewatch to refresh your memory. They comment on how he’s an accomplished cook that’s why they’re keen to try the eggs he’s making. However, on that occasion they are alien eggs from an 'Owon, that he’s never cooked before, and those are notoriously not to everyone’s taste. While none of the human staff could handle them, Worf loved them.

2·11 months agoYou guys are all imaging good shows that stick with the established characters and don’t retcon the universe, your imaginations are far better than what would actually be created.
The most exotic and amusing chef on the show - Neelix, would be absent. Data is back and well (no explanation offered) and cooks up a plate of synthetic oil, writers not knowing he can taste and wants to study and be part of human culture and make things his friends can also enjoy. Tilly has a meltdown because she’s done the recipe wrong and everything’s burnt - everyone who tries to help her also cries, but then they come together, “actually it’s even better burnt”.

3·11 months agoI mean I would. But I think Riker is the kind of guy that makes breakfast the morning after, sans replicator - for that personal touch. So I think he’d have no trouble scrambling some eggs.

113·11 months agoMore evidence that the current showrunners have no idea what to do with the franchise.
Next: a Trek-themed cooking show.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Friendly reminder that Tailscale is VC-funded and driving towards IPOEnglish
36·1 year agoI think I’ll just keep using tailscale until they start enshittifying, and then set up a Headscale instance on a VPS - no need to take this step ahead of time, right?
I mean, all the people saying they can avoid any issues by doing the above - what’s to stop Tailscale dropping support for Headscale in future if they’re serious about enshitification? Their Linux & Android clients are open source, but not IOS or Windows so they could easily block access for them.
My point being - I’ll worry when there is something substantial to worry about, til then they can know I’m using like 3 devices and a github account to authenticate. MagicDNS and the reliability of the clients is just too good for me to switch over mild funding concerns.

If you want an open source alternative, I believe the best option currently is Open Voice OS - which arose from the ashes of Mycroft.

Ehh. The default setting of life is to be ignorant - not politically engaged. So when someone does something like this meme they generally just go back to (now willful) ignorance.
Essentially they’re Cypher from the Matrix, but instead of having their memories wiped with machine technology they use Ambien and Champagne.

They do excellent discounts aound black Friday so you can pay for the year(s) ahead if you do decide to use them long term.
Most importantly - the time and people = money.
My last job had a dev, UAT, and prod environments because they knew it was important enough to the business to pay for them.
I dont pay me anything for running my home environment - so, there is only production. And lots of backups.
