I dunno, I’m one of those people who never stops using a drive until it breaks, and they never really break anymore. Oldest in my current PC is probably 20 year old HDD.
So yeah, these probably are fine and will still last a long time. But for like $20 more you don’t have to worry about losing the data on it.

Weighing it down gives traction. Hell, most hillbillies load up their truck beds in the winter because the weight is such a big help, especially in the back.

It makes a vehicle seem faster the less you have to push on the gas pedal, it’s a pretty old trick, because most people never floor it, so they don’t notice halfway thru it stops doing anything.

Like OG aluminum, this is going to be crazy expensive at first, but in a century it’ll likely be cheap and we’ll see it replacing glass in the most mundane uses.
We’ll see it replace phone screens pretty quickly tho. A few mm’s of this and we’ll have legitimately unbreakable screens, and even if a scratch happens, you should be able to just buff it out. They’re probably wrap entire phones it honestly. One solid piece that makes repair impossible on your own.

With old reddit you can block ads on the side and ads that pretend to be posts have a blueish hue, so it’s easy to scroll past without paying attention.
“New” reddit the images/videos are already open so I’m sure eventually they’ll look at the decrease in ad impressions and make up an excuse to get rid of it.

They could stay on Earth and cause problems, or they can boldly go far the fuck away from an ideal society.
A high turnover of senior leadership due to stupid risks means that there’s room for promotion and ambitious people stay in the fleet.
Otherwise they’d return to Earth and fuck up society.
Historically, every society needs some kind of relief valve like this or domestic issues develop. Once it’s an entire world government, they need that relief valve to vent off planet. And that’s what Starfleet is.
