  • Look at mister fancy pants with and assembler.

How about entering straight opcode, operand with only a hex keypad and two pairs of 7 segment LEDs. You can only see one set of numbers at a time. You had to write it out on paper to be able to keep track and count positions so you don’t use your spot.

I had to do this as a project in school. Two 8088 units that we breadboarded to a UART that we used to drive a fiber optic link to communicate with each other with a basic protocol. All descrete components hand wired and coded.

It made you tie all of skills together into a full system of hardware and software.

  • Use a tool to push sideways on the joints and from the component side.

Bad looking joints can still have a connection even if they look bad. If the connection has truly come loose, there will be some movement in the joint.

When we were working on surface mount boards, we would use a sewing needle and run it down the pins, and listen to the sound. The needle crossing a solid pin will make a sharp sound. If solder joint is not good, the pin moves, and you will get a duller sound. Dink, dink, dink, dut.

  • I have had various sticks and Roku highest end models and then got the latest ATV with hard wire port that adds Dolby vision and high frame rate HDR. I have a 2022 high-end TV.

The video quality is noticeably better. Not sure of older ATV, but this is clearly better than the top end Roku. Also, I’m not sure if it is the same on older tvs

The other thing is that you want to hard wire if at all possible. Even the best wifi can’t touch the reliability of a wire

  • UPS batteries are really dangerous because you cannot turn them off. They are also high enough voltage and current to harm you through arc flash and burns.

The other thing with small UPS batteries is that there are usually multiple batteries. There are fuses between the battery string and the circuit board but not between each battery in the string.

OP may have connected batteries wrong or he put a new battery in a string with a shorted/dead battery.

Whenever you are going to string multiple batteries together always disconnect batteries and check voltage on each separate battery to make sure that they are the same or very close in voltage. If different charge to the same level. Any difference in voltage between the cells will cause current flow that can cause a fire hazard.
