Yes, actually. Look up Oldlander addon for Firefox.
It’s new and kinda of rough but it definitely helps.

I know it’s not the point, but I love the completely arbitrary bit where they’re walking down a road together, and has absolutely no bearing on anything the happens.
My Jellyfin is also running media from recycled HDDs from work. No where near this impressive haul, but it was nice to be able to get a solid 10 TBs for free to get my server going.
That’s just a classic issue with most tech people: they either forget or don’t know how to adjust their speech for a different audience than themselves. Often they don’t even comprehend just how much “common knowledge” isn’t actually common outside their social spaces.
Then there’s some that are deliberately refusing to help uninformed people understand, or are even outright hostile to them.
Yep, the timing lines up. As part of the buyout offer, they probably had to demonstrate an effort to cripple the open source fork of the thing IBM wants to buy.
The app or frontend you’re using you’re using is probably smart enough to ignore the period at the end of the link
Well, the weird thing is they haven’t actually done anything to the app yet. Looks like they’re just focusing on the next major release. The version that has been available in the store for the last 2 years hasn’t been fucked with.
If you’re still using Nova 7, it’s fine. If you installed the beta for version 8, that’s the one they’ve been working on after the buyout.
Not yet. Nova Launcher 8 is the problem version and it’s still in beta. If you’re still using version 7, particularly 7.0.57, then it’s the version from before the buyout and it’s clean. It’s suspected they turned some analytics on with 7.0.58, but even that still looks clean to me. That is the only update they’ve pushed since the buyout.
My guess is they didn’t want to fuck with the current version, they just wanted to devote their focus to getting all the tracking shit into the upcoming major release.
If you disable auto updates now, you’ll probably be fine until it stops working
Both Lee and Lyman retweeted a post from Libs of TikTok, which the Washington Post says has amassed an audience of millions on X, largely by targeting LGBTQ+ people. In the video, a group of students speaking over each other complain that some students at the school wear masks and pounce on people.
This is kind of tacked on at the end. Looks like nothing actually happened or was reported to have happened, but one video of some kid saying it was happening in the middle of an argument got shared by a hate group on TikTok.
Matter of fact, the story seems to indicate the kids wearing animal ear headbands got food thrown at them, but didn’t actually do anything except take them off when asked. So we have a student bullying another student and the bullied student is somehow the thing that got inflated into being a problem.
Oh I know, I’m still on Motorola because they have unlockable bootloaders and SD card slots. But in recent years they’ve started taking them out of some of their mid-range models.
Point is there should be more options. Removing the SD card slot is just a bullshit way to push cloud storage.
I know, and I do, but the point is choices shouldn’t be so limited. They should be standard.
Now can we please get them back in phones?
Be thankful it didn’t take an explosive shit.
They say that, but I’ll believe it when I see the implementation.
It’s still going to artificially inflate Edge’s numbers from tech illiterate users that don’t know how to change it. There’s a significant number of users out there that will put up with Microsoft shitting down their throat before bothering to expend the few minutes it would take to learn how to change the settings themselves. The few that do try to figure it out will find Edge directing them to Bing which will make every effort to convince them not to do it. Meanwhile, Edge will steal all their bookmarks and tabs from Chrome, in order to further encourage users to just give up and use Edge.
It’s all calculated “dark patterns” shit, and it works. Microsoft counts on these people being so easy to corral.
And you can bet your ass after they implement this, they will push an update that “accidentally” resets the default back to Edge for everyone. Just to “clear the board”.
it stops malware from doing it
There are many different ways to prevent that apart from straight up removing the functionality. Another tactic Microsoft uses is trying to convince you there is only ever one way to secure the system and they “have no choice” if they want to keep their users safe.
It’s like saying the only way to keep a plane from being hi-jacked is to handcuff every passenger to their chair. It’s bullshit.
They’re not going to invest in it if they don’t own it, and frankly I’m happy they don’t.
Can’t wait to graduate so I don’t have to run Respondus and keep dealing with this crap
Well, I’ve got some bad news depending on what industry you’re going into: the business world runs on Windows.
They said they can’t wait to graduate, so I’m assuming that means they are using a Windows computer from their school, and depending on what the CIT department’s policies are like there, WinAero may not accomplish much
Maybe the central problem is racing to put other people out of work period, regardless of who they are. Maybe putting people out of work is not a net benefit for society, it’s actually negative in the long run, and only truly a benefit for shareholders. They don’t need any more of those at the expense of the working class.
