Orville ships have the superior design.
I think it’s the different humor and visual style case. And that’s ok. I don’t think you need to understand the many Trek injokes to like it- I know people who don’t know Trek and enjoy LD.
What I find interesting is that you feel the characters are cynical. I was quite suprised how endearingly idealistic the characters were, despite being written as flawed. They always make sure to do the right thing and they try very hard to better themselves. There’s a lot of character growth involved, which I much appreciate.
During the first two episodes, I also found the characters hyperactive. By the third one I adapted.
I saw a different season 3 I guess. The humor was gone but the kind and progressive approach to problems that I like about Trek was kinda gone too.
This is awsome!
Yeah, Tendi irl is not green at all.
…even when you grow, you can slip and you can revert, but you still get another chance. You can still help yourself.
I’m always in awe when it comes to the character growth in Lower Decks. It feels so real and natural. It’s nice to see that the creator knows exactly what he’s doing. Too many intuitive writers fail to grasp what the strength of their writing is and therefore risk losing it.
It’s ok that the whole world of Star Trek is not at the same level morally. I also understand writers are just people and they are influenced by the time and place they live in. But I appreciate it when they at least try to continue to elaborate the utopic aspects. I love thinking about what could be better in society and how it would work (and that’s what I like about TNG). Thanks for the analysis of DS9, by the way.
I’ve recently seen the episode of the Orville with Picardo (s02e03) and was reminded how good he is - his character has a great arch there and he sells all the emotions so well!
Can’t believe we got a Twin Peaks scene in Trek. I didn’t know I needed that but it makes me so happy!
I don’t think they’re concerned that some deep secret is going to get out. They’re concerned that their communication is used for commercial purposes in a totally uncontrollable way.
And that might very well be exactly what OP is planning to do. They’re not asking us how to spend their time properly, they’re asking how to communicate with people on longer distance. Sometimes you need to let your friends know that the cooking class was cancelled or there’s a new club you all could join. Your friends are not aroud you all the time. Using apps like Whatsapp or Telegram is more efficient than calling each one separately and offers the possibility of group communication. It’s perfectly fine to use it for your friends group and it doesn’t mean you have no real life.
Yes, I don’t think we’re in disagreement here. I was just trying to tie it all to the beginning of the discussion.
OP’s asking about the kind of communication that is needed from time to time to, for example, arrange a real-life meeting. They’re not talking about social networks.
Yes, still the question “What are you doing with these people…” is not really relevant. OP’s responsible approach to privacy is not something that needs questioning.
Discovery is not necessary, but there’s quite a bit of stuff from TNG, Voyager and DS9 in Lower Decks.
I feel the same about the last season. It seems to me they don’t make enough effort to think their ideas properly through anymore and just preach without applying logic, which is not satisfying to me. For those reasons I now prefer the Lower Decks. LD episodes seem much more creative to me and I like the diversity of character interactions and relationships.
We are using hyperboles to make communication more fun.
