Never attribute to malice what can reasonably be attributed to the stupidity, hate, and pig-headedness of an exceptionally fragile billionaire.

What are you talking about? David kicked kinda good while having hair, and Victoria was in a band called the Spice Girls despite being a set square haunted by the ghost of a rice cracker.
Because the AI isn’t needed, and would be computationally expensive.
Extensions like ublock origin and sponsorblock work just fine.
FWIW, I had a similarish experience with my local Craigslist equivalent (Gumtree)… They had a security breach, which led to my barely-used account being hacked by someone that was posting (I assume) fake car listings.
I reported it to them, and their response was to blacklist me. No great loss - why would I want to use a platform that badly managed. I later worked with one of their mid-level managers from that period, and yeah-it was an absolute shitshow there.
It’s not as though the article is any better - bots just wrapping up a comment thread from twitter, cramming it with ads, and presenting it as an article.
Late stage capitalist media is a dumpster fire.
Does comparing a corporate machine with a bargain basement consumer system seen reasonable to you? You think Dell is above this type of incompetence? My sweet summer shill.
They’re both shit companies - I sold HP systems for years, and was a brand marketing manager for most of Dell’s products at one time or another.
It’s an old practice, not an excusable one. Any “news” outlet pushing this misleading trash out should face similar consequences to false advertising without the need to initiate litigation (this isn’t libellous for example).
But yeah, the ring situation is indeed very real, entirely fucked, and unlikely to change until their sales start taking a kicking.
(late to respond here - sorry) As I said, the risk is certainly there, but writing stories like this that so dishonestly frame a non-issue sets the expectation that people are going to kick up a fuss about every non-issue, so any concerns along these lines should simply be ignored. This means that the real issues will be dismissed when they do inevitably arise.
“Food Delivery Robots Are Feeding Camera Footage to the LAPD, Internal Emails Show” implies secretive, leaked collusion with the cops to stream live video to them… a more accurate headline (that fails to beat a story out of nothing) would be “Robotics company gives footage of attack on its robot to police”.
Report reported, reporter.
…if they’re reporting the unreportable, how is it unreportable?
The internet was better when it was a pair of tin cans and a string.
So someone tried to steal one of the robots, and the robot company was keen to give the footage to the cops?
There’s a lot of potential for fuckery here, but dishonestly spinning this non-issue to look like some kind of crisis distracts from real problems with privacy and the police. Hack “journalists”.
This kind of hubris may be an opportunity for contractual fuckery…
As has already been said, it’s likely just an update issue - depending on your root status and whatnot, auto-updates unfortunately aren’t much of a thing these days as far as I can tell.
Still, I rarely need to update, and only do so when something breaks (like when YouTube started killing playback when it detects adblocking recently).
Sadly, it fell apart over time for me - revanced picked right up where they left off though.
Pissing away 40bn - 15% of your net worth to own the libs by destroying a company you were forced to buy requires an incredible degree of stupidity. Imagine the damage a remotely competent malicious narcissist could do with that kind of money.
For context, the 2016 election cost $6.5bn - for both sides, presidential and congressional elections - that comfortably buys you a quarter century of elections - and if the GOP has power for that long, at this point, there won’t be another election to fund.
Musk clearly has sub-normal IQ - there’s no shame in that, but he has no shortage of other reasons to be ashamed of himself.
