Reddit has been around forever, most of us left, what does it really have to offer? Keeping in mind that llms have had access to all that data for s long time, I can’t imagine the last 8 months or so of reddit data to be that significant.

Usually companies go public because they have an aggressive plan that requires growth and a massive cash injection. What is spez’s plan if he gets that? I’ll admit I haven’t really followed much, but I doubt reddit had this huge potential. And that’s even if they didn’t alienate their users and nods.

Assuming the user uses the same OS that the developer runs, and that they release a statically compiled app for. In this example, I see the project is python and docker is mentioned in thrbdocs, while not 100% my bet is that the output would still not be the .exe file that thhis entitled asshole is demanding.

That guy is not asking, is demanding. I use lots of open source software and am aware that the developer is often stretched thin. If I can’t help with the project (can’t say I have in the past two decades) I want them focused on what is important and what probably keeps them motivated, writing code and adding cool features. If they have time, fix bugs. If there is more bandwidth, write documentation.

Not wasting time making an executable for every OS out there because some ingrateful asshole is too lazy to figure out how to read instructions in plain English.

As for your second point, autosave still does its job. The fact that you haven’t chosen a name and a folder for your document doesn’t mean that the software hasn’t created one on disk that keeps getting autosaved. When you decide to finally save the document, that file gets renamed and placed where you want it.

I mean this is trivial stuff that got solved a long time ago, I don’t see people on this thread saying I don’t trust electronic payments, I only write checks but somehow everyone think a basic feature is broken everywhere

While not impossible, pretty hard to slip a bug into something like that and if it happens it gets identified,reported and fixed like all bugs. Users tend to be quite vocal about data loss.

Also some software developers tend to overcomplicate things, this is not rocket science

Been spending my days on a computer since then for work and hobbies, can’t say I remember a single other occurrence after that.

Done it a few months ago but then again if I was working at reddit and in charge of preparing the dataset to feed to the llm, I’d give it access to both a recent one and a snapshot from before July 2023 (or whenever shit hit the fan and we all came to lemmy), most edits would have been made in protest. And AI can figure out which ones by itself

Or not trusting autosave because they lost a document once in the 80s when autosave didn’t exist, and now they tell everyone to compulsively press ctrl-s because software can be trusted enough to drive a car, but not save a file every minute or so. Bonus point when they introduce themselves as I’m a software developer…

What does MS say when you report these to them? Is it always the same bug still unfixed or separate issues? Nothing is infallible with software, but note that in ops case autosave was disabled so no mystery “autosave lost my document”, it was just disabled.

And ffs autosave is just a timer that saves the document every x minutes the same way a user would do if they pressed save. I do believe you get many issues reported to you, but I doubt Microsoft autosave is so buggy to cause an unbelievable amount of data loss in a single institution (and I love to shit on MS).

Too many people on this thread seem to see autosave and ctrl-s as two different things, governed by magic and mystery, one of them indispensable to conside nyourself an experienced computer user. It’s the same fucking piece of code, in one case invoked by a timer, in the other one by the end user pressing a key combo.

Op’s issue was that automated was disabled by default. Obviously autosave doesn’t work it it’s disabled.
