Maybe, but I don’t think it is. Enshittification is a direct result of our tax policy that encourages cashing out, only looks at the short term, and requires constant growth.
There was a time when companies built a reputation and held onto it for a hundred years. We could go back to that.

Keep in mind that in these situations it’s not always their fault. Sometimes two other people have pulled in straight and they’re the third. Then the other two leave, and they just look like an ass.

About half a million tech workers have been laid off in the US over the past year. I expect salaries to come down, and work/life balance to take a hit. How much of one is still in the air.

Security is related. With a password manager you don’t have to worry about credentials from one site being used on another.
I think it’s both, actually. Lemmy is often giving html where json is expected, and Jerboa isn’t handling the error well.

The biggest mistake* Mastodon made was that they promoted “Mastodon” instead of a specific instance.
I think they’re absolutely right to just pick an instance and recommend that, or if that instance doesn’t work, try this other one. Which instance they pick is not what I care about more than just picking some specific instance. Beehaw may or may not have been the best choice, but I’m glad they picked one.
*I understand why Mastodon wanted to be neutral, but it was horrible for onboarding people.
Wanna bet? There are ways to frog in a boiling pot this. And chrome isn’t the only browser that will support blocking Firefox. (They’ll argue Chromium is not Google, only Chrome).
