It’s becoming a lot easier to use the internet a lot less. It’s been turned into such a user-hostile space so domineered by corporations and fascists that most of the internet doesn’t really hold much of an appeal anymore, at least for me.

If the internet died tomorrow and didn’t come back, I’d be annoyed about not being able to use it to order food, manage my bank account, or watch shows/movies, but the world would likely be an overall better place once logistics re-adapted to not having it.

The internet was cool for the first 10-15 years, but it’s been a rapidly worsening cesspit for a long time. Nothing the internet can offer us is worth also tolerating it as a tool for inescapable government and corporate surveillance, and as the most effective imagineable breeding ground for fascism and disinformation.

The internet makes our lives worse in so many more ways than it imporves them, and people are too fucking addicted to it to give a shit.

The entire American west is becoming unlivable, Canada is burning to ashes, poisoning tens of millions of people across the continent, a hirricane just hit Californis, an entire fucking city just got wiped off the map in Hawaii, and western Europe is going to go into freefall when the impending collapse of tbe Atlantic currents drastically ravages their climate.

But sure, tell me more about how being in a developed country is going to save us when there’s no fucking food and everything is on fire.

Maybe more practically, it’s just hard to argue America wouldn’t be in a better place right now if it wasn’t for Fox News and Facebook/Cambridge Analytica.

We absolutely would be, but not because they make people stupid. All they do is exploit vulnerabilities in our shitty brains that have always been there.

Don’t worry, in a few decades that’s where we’ll all be, you included. Assuming we survive the corporate-induced famines, anyway.

No it isn’t. Global connectivity is just putting a spotlight on the the fact that most people are and always have been fucking stupid and/or dangerously undereducated.

I stopped reading when you said the goal of tech companies is to solve real world problems. The only goal of tech companies is to create products that will make them a profit. To believe anything else is delusional. That’s kind of why our society is crumbling and the planet is dying.
