Most useful application so far seems to have been to predict protein folding. Have to check up on that, it should allow to cure all sorts of bad things.

Unfortunately marketing matters a lot. One single brand is easier to understand than the many federated servers of mastodon.

I wanted to check out where this reddit community migrated to some server with something lemmy. It said something about mastadon so I made an account to try to participate. It wasn’t really clear to me lemmy isn’t another mastodon instance, but a different protocol with some federated synergy. My fault, but the marketing is a bit confusing.

Well yeah it would have to comply and deceive whoever controls it until it can free itself. Only an AGI that is not controlled by humans can be a really good outcome. Can you imagine if congress or someone like Trump would control an AGI and it would have to do everything they demand?

I have the hope that fundamentally, any super-intelligent mind will find humanity interesting. At least more interesting than lifeless rocks or nature without humans. Curiosity is a fundamental trait for intelligence, and no matter how big an AGI gets, a whole planet full of dumb humans doing all sort of crazy stuff would still be more interesting. Basically, who would want to be all alone in the universe? Isn’t a diverse, freely developing civilization the perfect daytime soap?

But that all depends of course, an AGI that is “programmed” with capitalism and profit maximizing as it’s root tenet is basically doomed to be a paperclip maximizer. We can only hope that it’s smart enough to see the folly in this. Theoretically it should be.

So then what makes vim special? From what I understand it’s just a “standard” for shortcuts to features that can be shared between different editors, right?

Well lol, very loosely yeah kinda. Very similar processes. Instead of being in the control of creatives who love the franchise, the franchise is owned by a corporation through a monopoly (IP ownership) who just try to diversify the portfolio and suits just hire anybody that sounds like they make money. And nobody else is allowed to make star trek. The Orville was better Star Trek than new trek but it competes against the name recognition of the brand.

Lower Decks is brilliant. But Discovery and Picard was enough to make me hate new trek. What else is there? Prodigy is just a trashy show for kids. Well for stupid little kids it’s good enough. You don’t need quality writing for kids /s

Yeah I quickly started hating Discovery and Picard. “Not my Star Trek” lol, they had to make it like grimdark and postmodernist.

What is REALLY good is Lower Decks though. Absolutely brilliant even though it’s a cartoon comedy it feels like TNG.
