After downloading code from GitHub for years I can still take over a minute finding the file I want to download at times. Now that’s not long, but it’s why I’m there 90% of the time.

Technology@lemmy.ml•Apple's Vision Pro lacks any real visionEnglish
236·2 years agoI keep remembering the Apple Watch release in parallel to the vision pro’s release. The first Apple Watch was so awkward and had no real purpose other than an extra notification display. But over the years the Apple Watch found its footing through iteration and iteration and is now a great health tracker with a bunch of cool uses.
In 6 or so years the Apple vision headsets will be awesome… but so should competing VR/AR.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•The media controls on my car. Previous and Next are Up and Down. Volume Up and Down are Right and Left.English
14·2 years agoThink of it like this. Up arrow is forward and the down arrow is back. The volume then increases from left to right like most linear scales (that aren’t up and down). Yes the buttons should be the other way but there was probably some (poor) reasoning to why they are this way.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Update: Everyone said GameVault's UI was garbage, so we completely overhauled it.English
33·2 years agoWhat do I use this for? Do I install it on my NAS or my gaming pc?
My best guess is this is a self hosted network storage for games and other computers run the games from there? Or do they download the game from there? Is it a way to store game saves? Does it have any use for emulators like yuzu?
Sorry for all the questions, I’m only asking because the software looks really interesting but I just can’t figure out its uses.

610·2 years agoYou wouldn’t use it if you didn’t want to, but I actually think family photos are great for this. The focus is family in the photo, not what the background details are. Not a lot of people care how many tree tops are in a graduation photo. Our memories work the same by storing the most important parts in the best detail, and redrawing other details when accessing the memory. And as handheld computation improves it will be a small task to render each image on view.
How about a hobnibble?
