I don’t think a 4x strategy game is the best approach to the franchise. What’s more, this game used the Stellaris engine, and there’s already an excellent, total-conversion Star Trek mod for Stellaris.
I’d love to see a Trek game by a competent adventure dev like Wadget Eye. Hopefully Resurgence will be good, but I’ll not be holding my breath; most recent Trek games have been low quality cash-grabs, bulging with microtransactions.
Honestly, that aspect of DS9 did put me off when it first aired, but in my defense I was a kid. I don’t think I got around to watching the whole series until sometime in my 30’s. I also think my JLP-lovin’ kid self thought it was total bullshit that Sisko held Picard responsible for the crimes of Locutus.
I share your dismay w/r/t the ‘origin story’ trope, and started typing a much more cynical comment. But it’s not like you can’t tell a good story within those parameters. Plenty of good prequels exist. And lots of people were not big fans of Picard’s efforts to advance the timeline.
The determining factor for me will be the quality of the writing. I haven’t seen this Black Mirror episode, but I’ll check it out.

Thanks for the tips! Yeah, it’s definitely confusing at this point, trying to keep all the layers and masks straight. Most of the work done so far has been: ok, that was time-consuming, and I can’t really use this result, but I’ve learned something. Doing some parallel messing about with Shotcut.
Too soon to say; I’m merely a dabbler so far! I wanted to make a gif from this TNG scene, but it’s at the beginning of an episode and has credits obscuring it. So I spent a while trying to figure out the optimal method of removing them. Tried some online AI tools, but wasn’t getting the results I wanted, so I’m doing it frame by frame in GIMP, figuring out layer masks and stuff. I had messed around a bit with Photoshop before, so it’s not wholly alien.

Oh I dunno, they get so much screen time in Voyager that anyone who’s watched the series can’t help but remember them. Usually what people remember is how badly written they are as major antagonists. Having read a bit about their origin story, it was a real shit show from start to finish. Uninspired, reactionary garbage.
Ayy, I do that a lot, too. Usually because I don’t feel like it contributes anything, nobody else would give a shit, and/or it’s just negativity that I don’t want to be putting out there. It’s tough, because although I think these feelings are valid, they can also prevent me from expressing myself creatively.
Yeah, that’s frustrating. I hope they step up and promote the last season like they’ve said they will. I feel like their publicity efforts have really been all over the map.

Case in point, like what the heck is this whole Kid Cudi brand collab stuff? I’ve seen several teaser sort of things about it, and I have no idea what it is or who it’s supposed to be for. This suggests to me that it’s aimed at younger audiences, but is Kid Cudi even relevant to them? Dude’s my age, and I’m only really familiar with him from his time on Comedy Bang! Bang!
Thank you for the correction, I remember reading about the Epic exclusivity now. I look forward to picking it up when it goes on sale! Such is my way. I knew there was a solid Star Trek Stellaris scene, but I’m just a dabbler in 4x games. My favorite Trek games are probably A Final Unity and the Interplay TOS adventures from 30 years ago.
Edited to add, Bridge Crew is moderately fun as a single player game. Would probably be a blast with a group of friends.
