  • My experience with my company is exact opposite. Apparently Bitwarden and Vivaldi are not allowed because they have a lot of vulnerabilities so people should continue using edge/chrome and a plain text for storing all their passwords that they often show it on screen share. Had an issue with 2FA cause those assholes decided it’s fun to force the Microsoft propriety authenticator for everyone so I can’t use aegis anymore. That issue took a whole fucking month to get resolved cause none of them could comprehend their almighty Microsoft app didn’t work on my grapheneos. On a unrelated note, anyone got any openings at your company?

  • I wouldn’t mind paying for a service given I pay for my email provider when I can get gmail for free. Pretty ignorant to ignore the whole monopoly and say sToP uSiNg YoUtUbE tHeN. I will take what I need and I won’t give a penny or my data to those dicks. I also hope they paywall so there will be competitive services that I can happily pay for :)

  • I think there always will be free access to information in some form but video hosting specifically is simply too expensive when it grows to the size of YouTube. If you aren’t paying for something and it isn’t run by donations, you’re likely paying it with your personal info or time. I personally wouldn’t mind paying for a service like YouTube but the content I watch are simply nowhere else to find so piped is the closest thing I have now.

  • While I use piped myself I am k with their business model, its just degrading every year making the experience worse for everyone. YouTube can’t be compared to Netflix if you look at the bandwidth and the amount of users who don’t pay for it. Hosting such a huge video sharing platform for free will never be profitable and the only other way is to make it paid only like Netflix which is obviously not gonna happen. Yeah they have 0 morals, yeah google sucks ass, yeah they treat their users like pigs but wishing it should be completely free with no ads is just wishful thinking.

  • Migrating emails isnt that hard if u dont set yourself a deadline. Some services like proton offer migration and forwarding from google and you can just slowly update them as you use it. I myself got tutanota and anonaddy and going through my bitwarden entries updating different alias for everything for the past couple days. Still gonna keep the gmail accounts around for emergency but will slowly disassociate from it.

Takes a while but you can just stick with updating them when you do use it if you dont have the time or feeling lazy. For an average person who doesnt value privacy, they have no reason to move out of google anyway so gmail will always be the popular one unfortunately.
