So, M’benga wrote about the particles because he’s a doctor, and they can heal by expanding molecular structures like flesh. Scotty heard about this property and was like “Well can it expand atomic structures too? We could sure use some ‘healing’ on our deuterium reserves”. And turns out it can. So, think of it as a kind of smart matter that turns into whatever it touches. With gravitic containment and good aim, that principle of copying what it touches can do both jobs. And luckily, M’benga has seemingly already designed a hose nozzle smart enough to do the job on flesh. Just copy the molecules in the right places until everything is back to normal.

I’d like to headcanon that someone can elect certain exceptions to the UT for cultural reasons. I mean, Q was constantly speaking French and the UT didn’t translate it. And on the one hand, yes he’s a Q, but I think it’s important to be able to represent your culture.

Especially if someone is from a marginalised culture or if you’re studying xenolinguistics, it’s important to get a bit of that linguistic exposure. I’m learning the local Indigenous language, and I often use words from it in English conversations with monolinguals, because I think it’s super important for immigrants to pick up some local culture. My family immigrated to Australia from England many generations ago, and I’m the first of us to learn any of the local language. That’s a disgrace. We’re terrible immigrants.

I don’t like Star Trek Online because it’s all phasers and photon torpedos. I want to play a Star Trek game about exploring and debating philosophy.

I disagree that cartoons set lower expectations. I expected a lot from Lower Decks and that expectation was well satisfied. One thing LDS does benefit from is the 22 minute runtime. 45 minute episodes are too long.

I know an STA hater. She only watched the first half of episode 1, and assumed the rest of the show would be equally grimdark and “federation bad”.

I was also an STA hater after the first half of episode 1, but then I watched the second half. Then I watched the other episodes. But some people don’t have that kind of patience.
